Congratulations!

Congratulations and thank you to all those involved in the Connections Housing Grand Opening.  An amazing sight, the large event, (attended by over 700 local San Diegans as well as numerous local dignitaries) required a street closure and filled up the entire block of A Street between 5th and 6th avenue.  Featuring 17 speakers, everyone was very positive and a common theme included how important Connections Housing is and how more buildings like it are needed throughout San Diego County.  Councilmember Todd Gloria noted the homeless population to be a staggering 10,000 in San Diego County!  After the speeches concluded, the large crowd began to disperse with some heading to tour the PATH depot while other headed upstairs to view the interim and permanent housing.  In the depot all the service providers hosted booths where they explained the different service options available.  Upstairs, tours were given of the open units as well as the community room and computer lab offered to tenants.  Some toured the Family Health Care medical facility and some even made it to the sub-basement to see the full kitchen where over 200 tenants are served two meals a day.  Though crowded, the grand opening was a very pleasant event; everyone was cheerful and supportive of the new community.  Most of the team here at Affirmed as well as the numerous other organizations directly involved in the building, it was heartwarming to see such a great showing of support for homeless housing.
